Life in the age of constant experimentation 3

Once agian with the armory show post cards. (I explained all about them in my last post) But I had a huge pile of scraps after lots of cutting out. So I have been messing about with them as well. Making installations on the floor and photographing the piles.

Life in the age of constant experimentation 2

After the armory show in march VSA (the not for profit i was showing with) endded up with a huge pile of announcement cards for the show unused. It cards all had an image of one of my pieces on it. I have tried a few things with these cards in the past and now i am trying something new.

Life in the age of constant experimentation 1

Over and over and over again for the last few months I have been told that the entire point of my being in graduate school is to experiment. To break away from all of the processes and materials that I am conformable with. I am not sure if I have been fulfilling that requirement to the best of my ability but I am going to try and show here in the next few posts the range of things i have been trying. All of the projects are in process or just trails for larger projects. I am not sure if any of these will turn some sort of corner and become finished or get left by the side.

So the above image is a digital photograph "collection" I suppose. They are all taken of meals I have cooked for here at home or to give to friends/fellow students. I am working out some things about reconstructing my female idenity. (Some readers will know my mother and know why I must decide what of feminine traditions I want to incorperate, she had none of them) :)

Laser cuttering

So at this new fangled school I go to there are many fancy new toys to play with. The first of those I decided to play with was the LaserCAMM. It is bascally a computerized darwing laser that will cut out whatever you can draw in illustraor (and a few other programs) We also have a rapid prototyping machine thats prints pastic i 3d but i havent used it yet

So here is the laser cutting my piece of plastic (once i finish it i will post pics of it as well)

Newly painted and lovely

Here is a crappy cell phone picture of my newly painting studio. Steve did most of the work. But if you compare to the picture in my last post it looks so much better. I had one whole wall that was just bare plie wood and an unsealed dirty concrete floor. Dirty floors are not places that one puts fabric sculptures. So I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned the floor and we painted it with this special enamal floor paint. If you look at the door way you'll see what a huge diffreance it is from the flooring in the hallway. So no I can mess about in here with out worrying about ruined pieces.
